ASL& 121|American Sign Language I

5 Credits

This course explores American Sign Language (ASL) and Deaf culture, providing students with foundational skills in ASL communication. Students will learn fingerspelling, numbers, essential vocabulary, and sentence structure, allowing them to engage in simple, everyday conversations. Through interactive practice, students will also develop an understanding of ASL grammar, the use of facial expressions and body language, and the cultural and social customs of the Deaf community.

ASL& 122|American Sign Language II

5 Credits

This course builds upon skills developed in ASL& 121 and focuses on expanding expressive and receptive proficiency in American Sign Language. Students will develop greater control of ASL grammar, spatial agreement, classifiers, and storytelling techniques while deepening their understanding of Deaf culture. The course emphasizes immersion, visual learning, and interactive communication in real world contexts.
