EMT 101|Emergency Medical Technician-Basic [RE]

12 Credits

This is the entry-level course to the Emergency Medical Service (EMS) profession and is designed for those who aspire to become an Emergency Medical Technician-Basic. This course focuses on: EMT roles and responsibilities, airway management, patient assessment, medical and trauma emergencies, anatomy and physiology, documentation, lifting and moving, and communications. This course also includes practical labs and a total of 10 hours of clinical experience in the Emergency department to provide direct hands-on experience with a variety of patients. Upon successful completion of this course, students are eligible to take the National Registry Certification Exam. In order to certify as an EMT in the state of Washington, the EMT candidate must affiliate with a state approved pre-hospital care organization. Prerequisite

Students must be accepted into CBC's EMT program prior to enrollment. Completion of ENGL 99 is strongly recommended.

EMT 105|EMT IV Technician [RE]

The EMT IV Technician course is designed to provide foundational skills and knowledge for emergency medical technicians (EMTs) to perform intravenous (IV) therapy safely and effectively in the pre-hospital environment. Based on the Washington State EMT IV curriculum, this course covers essential topics such as anatomy and physiology of the circulatory system, IV equipment and supplies, proper insertion techniques, fluid management, and monitoring patients during IV administration. Students will learn to assess patients, determine the need for IV therapy, and manage common complications. The course emphasizes hands-on skills practice, safety protocols, and best practices for patient care. Upon successful completion, students will be prepared to provide advanced pre-hospital care, contributing to better patient outcomes in emergency medical situations. Internship requirement of 20 successful IV¿s will be required at the conclusion of didactic training. Internship must be completed prior to receiving a certificate of completion. $150 course fee per quarter.

Prerequisite

Successful completion of EMT 101 or equivalent, and a minimum of 1 year as a certified Emergency Medical Technician.
